Sic Bo Rules and Payouts: Big and Small, Totals, Doubles and Triples
Sic Bo needs only three dice: the dealer shakes the cup, lifts it, and the three dice decide every bet on the table. You can play anything from simple Big / Small and Odd / Even to exact totals, doubles and triples, and the payouts vary a lot. This guide puts the basic rules, every bet's payout and how many combinations hit it into tables, then works through three rolls.
The basic rules
- Each round rolls 3 dice, each showing 1 to 6, so the total runs from 3 to 18.
- Three dice give 6 × 6 × 6 = 216 outcomes, all equally likely.
- All three dice the same is a triple (4-4-4, for example); two the same is a double.
- Place your chips before the cup is lifted, and every bet is settled from the result. There are no other decisions to make.
Bets and payouts
These are the default payouts for Porcelain Sic Bo in MacePlay. They can be adjusted, so the in-game paytable always has the final word. "1 to 1" means a 100 bet that hits returns 200 (your stake plus 100).
| Bet | Pays | Hits when |
|---|---|---|
| Small / Big | 1 to 1 | Total is 4–10 / 11–17; loses on any triple. |
| Odd / Even | 1 to 1 | Total is odd / even; also loses on any triple. |
| Double (a chosen number) | 10 to 1 | That number shows on at least two dice (a triple counts). |
| Any Triple | 30 to 1 | All three dice are the same, whatever the number. |
| Specific Triple | 180 to 1 | All three dice show the number you chose. |
| Single number (1–6) | 1 / 2 / 3 to 1 | Pays 1 to 1 if your number shows on one die, 2 to 1 on two, 3 to 1 on three. |
Totals (4–17)
Bet on the exact sum of the three dice. Totals near the ends are rarer and pay more. "Combinations" is how many of the 216 outcomes give that total.
| Total | Pays | Combinations (/216) |
|---|---|---|
| 4 or 17 | 60 to 1 | 3 |
| 5 or 16 | 30 to 1 | 6 |
| 6 or 15 | 17 to 1 | 10 |
| 7 or 14 | 12 to 1 | 15 |
| 8 or 13 | 8 to 1 | 21 |
| 9 or 12 | 6 to 1 | 25 |
| 10 or 11 | 6 to 1 | 27 |
In MacePlay, total bets still count on a triple: if 4-4-4 is rolled, a bet on 12 pays 6 to 1. Totals of 3 and 18 can only come from a triple, so they have no spot of their own on the table.
Many Sic Bo tables also offer two-dice combinations (for example 2 and 5 both showing, 5 to 1). MacePlay's game supports this bet, but it does not fit on a phone screen, so it is not on the betting table for now.
Three example rolls
Example 1: 2-5-6 (total 13)
- Big for 1,000: 13 is in 11–17, so it returns 2,000.
- Total 13 for 100: 8 to 1, returns 900.
- Single 6 for 100: one 6 showing, 1 to 1, returns 200.
- Even for 500: 13 is odd, so this bet loses.
Example 2: triple 4-4-4 (total 12)
- Big for 1,000: a total of 12 would normally be Big, but it is a triple, so Big, Small, Odd and Even all lose.
- Any Triple for 100: 30 to 1, returns 3,100.
- Specific Triple 4-4-4 for 100: 180 to 1, returns 18,100.
- Double 4 for 100: three 4s still count as a double, 10 to 1, returns 1,100.
- Single 4 for 100: three 4s showing, 3 to 1, returns 400.
Example 3: 3-3-5 (total 11)
- Small for 1,000: 11 is Big, so this bet loses.
- Double 3 for 100: 10 to 1, returns 1,100.
- Single 3 for 100: two 3s showing, 2 to 1, returns 300.
- Total 11 for 100: 6 to 1, returns 700.
Common questions
Is Big / Small the safest bet?
Big, Small, Odd and Even each hit on 105 of the 216 outcomes (216 minus the 6 triples, split in half), so a little under half the time; the triples make the difference. The high-paying bets come up rarely but pay a lot when they do. How you play is up to you, so just enjoy it.
Why do Big and Small lose on a triple?
It is a standard Sic Bo rule, and it is why Any Triple and Specific Triple pay so much. In MacePlay, Odd and Even lose on a triple too.
Do the history board and hot or cold numbers help?
No. The history on screen just shows what came up recently. Every round the server rolls three fresh dice, so each round is independent: after a run of Big, the next roll is just as likely to be Big as ever.
